Driving and camping in the Grand Canyon Parashant.

Oct 2014

The Parashant is a large area in the western part of the Arizona Strip north of the Grand Canyon. Here's a Map and  link to detailed Info. The area has many miles of  dirt, gravel, and rock roads -- some of them the most rugged that I've ever seen or driven (or tried to). It is very easy to be on a very rough road while 75 - 100 miles, or more from a paved road. (Not a good place to break something) Also, the driving time between Grand Canyon viewpoints can be more than one day, and unless one has a very large fuel tank, careful fuel management and a fuel stop will be needed.
The remote camping opportunities are incredible, and the views are fantastic.

Here was my 10-12 day trip plan. I had planned to reach the east shore of Lake Mead, visit the three view points shown, and end at Point Sublime.
As you will see, the plan was way too optimistic.
